Dental implants are a popular tooth replacement option and for a good reason. They are the only permanent solution to missing teeth. They are placed into the jawbone, providing a permanent base for a replacement tooth. Unlike dentures or bridges, implants do not move in your mouth. They look and feel like natural teeth and function just like them.

At Dr. Vasquez & Associates Dentists, the dental implant process begins with placing a small titanium post in your jaw. The post fuses with the bone over time, creating a stable foundation for a crown to be placed on top. Once the implant has healed, the crown is screwed into place. The result is a natural-looking smile that functions just like your natural teeth!

The Benefits of Dental Implants

Improved Appearance

Dental implants look and function like your natural teeth, so no one can tell you have them.

Improved Oral Health

Because dental implants are fixed in place, they do not require any special care or cleaning instructions. You can brush and floss them just like you would your natural teeth.

Improved Speech

With dental implants, you can speak clearly and confidently without worrying about your teeth slipping out of place.

Improved Comfort

Dental implants are comfortable because they are custom-made to fit your mouth perfectly.

Improved Self-Esteem

A beautiful, healthy smile can boost your confidence and make you feel better.

Improved Quality of Life

Dental implants allow you to eat the foods you love without worry and enjoy an active lifestyle without worrying about your teeth falling out.

The Procedure for Dental Implants

The dental implant procedure itself involves surgically placing the implant into the jawbone. This implant is typically made of biocompatible titanium, which allows it to fuse with the jawbone over time through osseointegration. The surgery is generally performed under local anesthesia, and sedation may also be used to ensure your comfort during the procedure. After implant placement, a healing period of several weeks to a few months is needed to integrate the implant with the jawbone fully. During this time, a temporary crown or denture may be placed to help with aesthetics and function.

Once the implant has fused with the jawbone, a small connector called an abutment is placed on top of the implant. The abutment serves as the foundation for the final restoration. After the gums have healed around the abutment, a custom-made dental crown or prosthesis is attached to the abutment. This crown or prosthesis is designed to look and function like a natural tooth, providing a durable and aesthetically pleasing solution. After the final restoration is placed, you'll likely need to schedule follow-up visits with your dentist to ensure that the implant is functioning correctly and that your oral health is maintained.
